How large are American Saddlebred horse?

American Saddlebred horses are typically between 15-17 hands (5-6 feet) and weigh around 1,000 to 1,200 lbs.

Do I have to show if I want to learn to ride?

No, learning to ride does not require a youth or adult to show horses. People learn to ride for many different reasons that include developing skills, love of the animal, or calming environment. Showing horses is a the development of a rider but is not required.

Do I have to own a horse?

No. Many riders, especially ones in Academy classes are “renting” or “leasing” a horse as part of their lesson program. To show horses as a Class A rider, ownership is required.
